VINCENT ET MOI GALLERY

Vincent et Moi has been a key player operating at the crossroads of health and visual arts since it was founded in 2001. The program supports visual artists living with mental health problems who receive treatment at the Capitale-Nationale Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre. Artists receive assistance throughout the entire creative process, from conception to displaying the finished product.

The program’s core mission is to recognize and promote artists’ creative and cultural contribution to society, develop their skills and bring their work to the public, while serving as a testament to art’s positive impact on health, for both individuals and communities.

Hôtel 71 has been a proud partner of the Vincent et Moi program since spring of 2015. The hotel supports talented artists involved in the program by displaying their work in the Vincent et Moi gallery and various locations around Hôtel 71 for guests to admire and purchase.

JOHANNE VALLÉE, PAINTER

Johanne Vallée, also known as Ruby, works almost exclusively with the concept of abstraction. She seeks to communicate with the outside world through the use of colour and movement, to create an emotional experience for the viewer. Using layering, addition and subtraction, concepts unique to abstraction, Ruby finds freedom.

BENOIT GENEST ROUILLIER, PAINTER

Benoit Genest Rouillier approaches painting as though it were choreography, or even a martial art—he is constantly seeking to strike a balance in his work. The energy and intensity of his paintings evoke strong emotions in the viewer.

KARINE LABRIE, PAINTER

In Karine Labrie’s paintings, women serve as the backdrop for extravagant attire. Her female subjects emerge from densely-packed lines, patterns and graphic elements that fill every inch of the canvas.

RICHARD JOLIVET, PAINTER

Richard Jolivet developed a personal style and technique through the skilled use of an airbrush and acrylic paint. He creates singular universes in works that evoke comic books, science fiction and fantasy.

MIREILLE BOURQUE, PAINTER

Mireille is heavily influenced by the painters of the early 20th century. Her work draws on their non-traditional approaches to rendering form and light. Mireille’s paintings appear in private and public collections in Canada, the United States and France.

FRANÇOIS BERTRAND, TEXTILE SCULPTOR

François Bertrand is one of the founders of the Vincent et Moi program. François transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary: he creates fabric from pieces of recycled metal, which he bends, cuts and pierces, then stitches together with brass or iron wire to form a length of fabric.
