At the heart of Karine Labrie’s work, clothing reigns. Female characters, products of a bygone era, are the showcase and the vehicle of a royal wardrobe, opulent and extravagant. So as to give form to this universe, she multiplies lines, motifs and graphic elements which accumulate and superimpose themselves upon one another, and criss-cross to form textures, spaces and an extraordinary ornamental work. The use of just one colour, black or blue, amplifies the detail within the fabric and the ornamentation work. The results are complex works, vibrant and charged, which bear witness to her singular world. Suffering from deafness since her youth, drawing has become for Karine Labrie a veritable tool for communication.
